Capturing a fragment of memory framed in a specific time and place, mementos allow the interplay of time and mind to enrich the embedded emotional content and juxtapose it with the present. As a result, the layered narratives add to our experiential repository, making it a uniquely living process. There are a variety of little souvenirs scattered around my room: a few seashells from a remote beach, a rugged rock from a hiking trip a few years ago, a feather from a park I frequent, etc., each of them carrying a story that’s part of my personal history. Their presence transforms the ephemeral events and punctuates the space with distinctive characters, gently blending the past and present reality with sentiments sculpted by time.
